Hair transplantation is the cosmetic surgery in which the hair follicles are taken from one place in the body to the place where the hair is required i.e. the bald part. It is performed under a local anesthesia. There are two procedures for hair plantation – slit grafts and micro grafts. There are four to ten hairs per graft in slit grafts, and one to two hairs per graft in micro-grafts.
First of all, the doctor makes an analysis of the patient’s scalp and the patient is made aware of the precautions prior surgery. The patient is asked to refrain from medicines, smoking and drinking.
There is strip harvesting, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) and robotic hair restoration. If there are less hair in the back area of the scalp of the patient, the surgeon performs the surgery who have hair on chest, shoulders, legs or any part of the body.
People can start with their daily activities few days after surgery. Hair growth is also visible after six to nine months post surgery. Antibiotics are recommended by the surgeons to lessen the risk of infection.
The side effect of hair transplantation is shock loss, usually a temporary one, which is hair thinning.
